Does your homework help you to learn ?
Every day, every hour, every minute, hundreds, thousands, millions of exhausted and tired students around the world are forced to spend their precious free-time doing homework. Sometimes, it takes the whole afternoon to do their homework carefully and there is no time left for leisure activities. Homework is just a revision of the things you have learnt at school. Is really necessary or only a waste of time?
Homework is absolutely necessary because it‘s learning by doing. The most important argument for doing homework is that it doubtlessly helps you to keep the things you have learnt in school in your mind. Repetition is really useful to remember things for tests or other schoolwork. Furthermore, you‘ll have no problems in your subjects either, if you do your homework regularly. An argument for parents is that their children should have to do a lot of work at home to keep them from developing weird ideas.
However, there are some disadvantages with homework. First of all it‘s very tiring to do homework after you have been in school the whole day. You just need some time to relax and it should be possible to have some hobbies beside school but the more homework you have to do the less spare-time you have. Moreover, some homework such as copying a text is extremely senseless.
To sum up, homework is not always the ideal way of spending your free-time but it is necessary to learn something. It surely helps you to prepare for tests and teachers need evidence to see that pupils do something at home for the subject. In my opinion, homework should be kept short and it must definitely never ever be a way of punishing pupils.
